The cold weather cannot stop us from enjoying the festive Advent period in the Hungarian capital. Therefore, we have collected 5 amazing winter programs in Budapest that you should not miss in December. Coats up, and venture outside to make the most out of this magical season!

Advent fairs in Budapest

As we previously reported, Christmas fairs in the Hungarian capital are awaiting visitors with splendid lights, exciting programs, and a stunningly festive atmosphere. Therefore, you should not miss this wonderful experience when you have some free time on your hands in December. In order to enhance the anticipation, Budapest’s Advent markets await you with a wide range of Hungarian Christmas delicacies. Accordingly, you can enjoy the „Advent taste” of lángos, goulash soup, goose liver, chimney cake, strudel, chestnuts, accompanied with mulled wine, hot chocolate, pálinka, beer, or Hungarian wines.

Attention! Christmas Market at Vörösmarty Square and Advent Basilica can only be visited with an immunity certificate or a negative coronavirus test!

City Park Ice Rink

You do not need to go far either if you would like to do some winter sports during the Advent period. After last year’s break, the City Park Ice Rank has finally reopened this year. Since 19th November,

while skating in Budapest’s City Park you can enjoy the splendid Christmas decorations, upbeat music hits, and the breathtaking views of the Vajdahunyad Castle.

The Ice Rank awaits visitors from Monday to Friday between 9am–1pm (morning) and 5pm-9pm (afternoon), on weekend Staurday between 10am-2pm and 4pm-9pm, and on Sunday between 10am-2pm and 4pm-8pm.

Entrance fees:

• Adult ticket (off-peak): 4 € (~ 1500 HUF)
• Adult ticket (on-peak): 5.40 € (~ 2000 HUF)
• Senior/Student (on-peak): 4 € (~ 1500 HUF)
• Senior/Student (off-peak): 2.7 € (~ 1000 HUF)

Skate can be rented on site for 6.8 € (~ 2500 HUF)

Thermal baths

 

 

 

On the freezing winter weekends, there is nothing more relaxing than soaking in an outdoor thermal pool and marveling at the beautiful surroundings. Discover the most famous spas of Budapest this year and relish the rejuvenating experience! 

Enjoy the snowfall in Széchenyi Thermal Bath, or admire the pulsating capital city from a panoramic rooftop pool while sipping champagne in Rudas Thermal Bath.

• with cabin: 16 € (~ 5900 HUF)

Entrance on weekends:

• 3-hour ticket (from 5 pm): 16 € (~ 5900 HUF)
• with cabin: 16.8 € (~ 6200 HUF)

Rudas Thermal Bath

• ALL IN ticket: from 13.3 € (~ 4900 HUF)
• Welness-Spa ticket: 9.2 € (~ 3400 HUF)
• Turkish bath ticket: 9.2 € (~ 3400 HUF)
• Night tickets: 17 € (~ 6300 HUF)

Attention! From 20 November 2021 vaccination certificate must be presented at the baths.

Westend Winter Wonderland

Wintertime in Hungary brings us several wonders, including the beautiful snowfall, the splendid Christmas nights, and the special festive atmosphere. If you would like to experience even more miracles during the Advent period, you should definitely visit the Winter Wonderland terrace on the top of Westend shopping centre. A series of events await families, friends, and couples

with a cozy carousel, an ice skating rink, Christmas delicacies (mulled wine, chimney cake, chestnuts) and several exciting Advent programs in December.

The special terrace can be visited from 14 November until the end of this year.

Entrance to the Winter Wonderland event is free.

The ice rink can be used free of charge by children under 10 years of age and by residents of Terézváros (6th district). Over the age of 10, the entrance fee is 4 € (~ 1,500 HUF), for which a Westend gift card is provided. This amount can be fully redeemed until the date indicated on the card at Westend’s nearly 150 gift voucher shops. Rental fee for skates on site: 2.2 € (~ 800 HUF).

Skiing in Budapest

If December will bring a lot of snow for us, you should definitely visit Normafa Park. Here you can find 7 ski slopes that can be used depending on your level. At the moment, the website of Normafa Park recommends the Kis-Norma ski resort for skiing. Its difficulty level is „blue” at the top and „red” at the bottom parts. In addition, the Nagy-Norma and the Harangvölgy, as a continuation of the previous pistes, are suitable for those who are more experienced (difficulty level: black).

The ski slopes of Normafa Park are excellent terrain for skiers.

Currently, the ski slopes do not have an elevator, snow replacement, or lighting. All of these are planned to be built on the Kis and Nagy-Norma ski slopes.

The slopes can be used free of charge.

Attention! It is forbidden to use the slopes for sledding! Skiers and sledges can accidentally cross each other’s paths which can lead to serious accidents!
